Platform Update: Governance, Administration and Customer Service
🏛️ My Vision for Governance, Administration & Customer Service
Good government should be easy to understand, easy to access, and focused on serving the people of Huntsville.
I've heard from many residents that they want Town Hall to be more responsive, more transparent, and easier to navigate. Whether you're reporting a pothole, trying to understand a development proposal, or simply wanting to speak with your councillor, the process shouldn't feel frustrating or buried in bureaucracy.
As your Ward Councillor, I'll advocate for practical improvements that make local government work better for everyone.
📱 A Modern 311 Customer Service System
Residents should be able to call or text 311 to report issues and have them automatically directed to the right Town department.
Imagine snapping a photo of a pothole, broken playground equipment, or a damaged trail, texting it with the location, and knowing it has reached the right staff member. No searching for email addresses, resizing photos, or wondering who to contact.
Huntsville residents want to help keep our community beautiful—we should make it simple.
📬 Clear, Easy-to-Read Council Updates
Transparency shouldn't require reading hundreds of pages of technical reports.
I'd like to see the Town bring back pre- and post-meeting Council highlights through an e-newsletter and social media updates that explain:
What's coming before Council.
Why it matters.
What decisions were made.
What happens next.
Residents deserve the facts in plain language.
🤝 Open Office Hours Before Council Meetings
Councillors don't currently have regular office hours, and that can create a disconnect between residents and their elected representatives.
I support having councillors available 30–45 minutes before every Council meeting for informal drop-in conversations at Town Hall. It's a convenient way for residents to ask questions, raise concerns, or discuss that evening's agenda without needing to schedule a formal meeting.
Local government should be approachable.
🏗️ More Transparency Around Development
Growth is one of Huntsville's biggest conversations, and misinformation often fills the gaps when information isn't easy to find.
I believe every major development should have a dedicated page on the Town's website that includes:
The project location.
The developer or applicant.
Staff reports and studies.
Council decisions.
The current status of the application.
One place. One source of truth. Just the facts.
💰 A Governance & Administration Review
Taxpayers deserve confidence that their municipal government is delivering value for money.
I support a review of Huntsville's governance and administrative structure to ensure Town resources are being used effectively, staff have the capacity they need, and opportunities for efficiencies or improvements are identified without compromising the services residents rely on.
Good governance isn't about politics—it's about trust.
I want a Town Hall that is transparent, responsive, and focused on serving residents. By improving communication, embracing better customer service, and making local government more accessible, we can build a stronger relationship between Huntsville residents and the people who represent them.
A government that listens. A government that's accessible. A government that works for Huntsville.
