Huntsville is growing, and with that growth comes both opportunities and challenges. We need to ensure that growth is well-planned, sustainable, and benefits everyone—while preserving the character and quality of life that make our community such a special place to call home.
Housing affordability remains one of the biggest challenges facing our community. While there is no single solution, the Town has an important role to play in encouraging the development of affordable housing and creating the conditions for balanced, responsible growth.
As your Ward Councillor, I will advocate for:
🏘️ Continue to investigate if Huntsville should apply for the housing incentive programs offered by other levels of government
📚 Increasing education and awareness of existing affordable housing incentives offered by the Town and the District of Muskoka, including rebates and deferrals for eligible builders.
🤝 Working with builders, community organizations, and residents to evaluate whether existing housing programs are achieving their intended goals and identify opportunities for improvement.
🏠 Supporting the strategic use of Town-owned land and public-private and non-profit partnerships to help develop more affordable rental housing for residents.
Housing is about more than buildings—it's about ensuring that young people can stay in the community where they grew up, families can put down roots, seniors can age in place, and local businesses can attract and retain employees. By working collaboratively and planning responsibly, we can support growth that meets today's needs while preparing for tomorrow.
I'd love to hear from you. What do you think is the biggest housing challenge facing Huntsville, and what solutions would you like to see explored?
